On Friday November 13, Professor Shanthi Senthe at Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law hosted the first “Boughton Law Securities Workshop”. This workshop was developed with the assistance of Donya Vahidi, who is currently an articling student at Boughton Law and also an alumni from TRU Law (Class of 2015).
Boughton Law Securities Group Leader, Rory Godinho and Associate, Brian Fast, guest lectured TRU Law’s Corporate Governance and Business Associations Class. The lecture provided students with a general understanding of the legal framework governing the issue and trade of securities in Canada, with a focus on British Columbia.
In the interest of practicality, Brian and Rory walked the students through a reverse takeover listing of a Canadian Licensed Producer of medical marijuana, which went public in 2014. The lecture also incorporated how certain political changes can affect the securities industry and its individual participants, leaving students with a well-rounded general understanding of securities law in British Columbia.
